Not everything
without which
Our son couldn't do was ready
For which reason I sometimes worried
For which my nights were sleepless,
'N for which I sometimes was sad
And how else ? I am father:
Who says otherwise lies.
But, if not today,tomorrow,someday,
We shall have all necessity-
wood,bowl,stove,
dresses,nappies.....
'Tis something else agitates my mind.
It is other care shakes my inside:
That money cannot buy all.
This truth holds me entrapped
And on me is heaped the question
That when our son matures
Aside from dresses, milk and bread,
Will I from this our age
Give him that as well
That will make him a man?
-Pen'o Penev
translated by me in 1988 while I was rounding off my study in Sofia, Bulgaria and looking forward to the birth of my son.

I join BBCGlobalMinds
I joined BBCGlobalminds a few moments ago.
I can say I knew in precise terms what to expect. I certainly did not reckon on the survey I had to pass through to join, but neither was I surprised or disappointed.
I welcome it wholeheartedly as an opportunity to participate in World Debate, especially as ,in the words of Martin Luther King, I see myself as a World Citizen

Oh yes, I tweet !
Tweet, for those who may not know, is a way of keeping contact with people online by saying in no more than 140 letters what you are doing at any moment.
It is immediately broadcast to all your tweeter contacts and now there are many sites from which you may post your tweeter comments including from your mailbox.
Tweeter has become a powerful tool for spreading and exchanging ideas.
Oh yes, I tweet. Here is the tool I use to get tweeter followers.

An experiment in co-operative production !
I just went into a partnership with some friends to co-operatively produce a film. This, as far as I know, is innovative in Nollywood.
We would however be rendering it one of the traditional languages of the state of my residence- Akwa Ibom State- Ibibio.
Actually, we are already on location and ought to have had it wrapped today but are surely going to overshoot by a day or two. That is additional cost.
We are not very well placed in terms of cashflow, but our local nollywood community is excited about the whole experiment.
I will keep you posted as we go.

A quick update !
It's a mix!
I just returned from Lokoja, the town at the confluence of the two rivers that define Nigeria, the rivers Niger and Benue.
It wasn't just tourism : we were there to conduct the larest edition of the National Culture-Quiz Competition for Secondary Schools in Nigeria( yours truly was Quizmaster)
Lokoja is a true tourist haven and I enjoyed that bit of it too as we were conducted round on the last day, seeing sites like the stretch over which the two rivers simply flow alogside each other before finally merging, the iron of liberty where slaves were freed, the first primary school in Northern Nigeria, the first Hospital in Northern Nigeria with its one room mortuary etc.
On my return, I had to go back to base via Lagos. I had to visit my dad.As mentioned earlier, he took the death of his junior sister rather badly, that being classic Yoruba sentiments about such events. His xtian faith did not desert him though for his answer was to pray and fast. I share his faith and believe God knows how best to react to his requests. I say this guidedly because I do not know the exact details of his prayer points and I do recollect that his own father actually suffused himself in death-wish for similar reasons and did get his prayers answered.
While sharing his faith, I do share the position of others in the family that he might be stressing himself into illness. He is down with that ultimate of men's disease- prostate amd has opted against operation- exploratory or not ! All I can say for now is that our hearts are in our mouths !

See what I mean ?
Just in case you were one of those likely to find it difficult identifying with my concept of dying young at 71, let me invite you to see this story of the oldest man in Australia. Why would his reported age not be the rule rather than the exception. Mind you, even he did not hit the roof as far as I know:click here to read the story.

Gone too soon !
I just returned to my dutypost from Oyo town.
I was there for the burial of my auntie. She was my father's immediate junior sister.
In strict Yoruba practice this meant that even though she was passing on at 71, my father could not be at that ceremony. Thus my presence was doubly significant, both to represent myself and to represent my dad.
It was a test-case for my extended family because we have not been having ceremonies of this type save for my dad's 70th birthday about 5years back.
It was a lesson in how death is more of a unifying event than any other rights of passage, for while we had been gathering in smaller numbers for events like marriages, birthdays, etc everybody could see that it was a fuller house this time.
One must confess though that the size of the gathering was also a testimony to the goodness of our matriarch who just passed on. Iya Oyo as we used to call her really belonged to everyone, not her children alone.
Also something I must confess. In spite of their ages, I never admitted to myself that that generation- my dad, my mum. their brothers and sisters etc could be on their way out. Not a pleasant thought to admit generally, but then I also believe that they are indeed still too young to die.
I put it this way- that in all my life I have hardly seen anybody who did not die young. Although we console ourselves with the position of the Psalmist concerning our years being threescore and ten, I would rather believe that Methuselah and many others like him that are cited in the same Bible were not meant to be exceptions.
I pray fervently that humanity would find the secret of such longevity soon enough.

GOD MARKED MY BIRTHDAY !
I turned 49 yesterday. Very challenging if you reckon that I had earlier set a target of retiring at 50 and things don't seem to be working out towards that for now.
I do not believe in impossibilities and I have not yet given up, especially as what I really meant is what I explained in my article titled : Retirement and its new age meaning.
So, since I am not particularly enthusiastic about how things stand, I decided to keep a low profile. Yet, God decided to visit me! I got an invitation to a partnership at ListandChat., applied for it and got it.
That Kenneth Kraakstad considered me worthy of being invited was enough to make me happy, but to actually get approved for it ! - now, that is what I call a visitation from God.
I therefore intend to put my best effort into it. I am to bring in at least 20 signups to remain in this prestigious club, so if you are an internet marketer, let me use this opportunity to invite you to sign up at ListandChat.
The site is very useful anyway : where else would you have gotten all these great benefits in one place ?
*Access to the most powerful ListBuilder, LinkTracker and Text Ad System around today.
*Email to Random members! Upgraded members can email randomly every week!
*Get free access to the newest Text Ad System!
*Get a full control where members are clicking on your affiliate urls!
*Send PM's to personal friends from Chat.
*Earn commissions even as a free member!
There is much much more! Just go over and see for yourself : ListandChat.

Might just need a change a gear !
This third post has taken quite a long time coming inspite of the candid reviews of my colleagues on Linkreferral.
I will not state the reason expressly. I will simply hint at it with this link that I am posting.
Be assured though that there will now be more frequent posting once this gear change is effected.
Welcome most heartily into my world.
