It's a mix!
I just returned from Lokoja, the town at the confluence of the two rivers that define Nigeria, the rivers Niger and Benue.
It wasn't just tourism : we were there to conduct the larest edition of the National Culture-Quiz Competition for Secondary Schools in Nigeria( yours truly was Quizmaster)
Lokoja is a true tourist haven and I enjoyed that bit of it too as we were conducted round on the last day, seeing sites like the stretch over which the two rivers simply flow alogside each other before finally merging, the iron of liberty where slaves were freed, the first primary school in Northern Nigeria, the first Hospital in Northern Nigeria with its one room mortuary etc.
On my return, I had to go back to base via Lagos. I had to visit my dad.As mentioned earlier, he took the death of his junior sister rather badly, that being classic Yoruba sentiments about such events. His xtian faith did not desert him though for his answer was to pray and fast. I share his faith and believe God knows how best to react to his requests. I say this guidedly because I do not know the exact details of his prayer points and I do recollect that his own father actually suffused himself in death-wish for similar reasons and did get his prayers answered.
While sharing his faith, I do share the position of others in the family that he might be stressing himself into illness. He is down with that ultimate of men's disease- prostate amd has opted against operation- exploratory or not ! All I can say for now is that our hearts are in our mouths !
